| It has been estimated that there is between 2000 -
3000 species of termites in the world, between 200 - 300 of them here in
Australia.
No wonder we have our hands full and much damage is caused :
estimated over $100 million per year.
A survey held in 1982 - 83 by the Forestry Commission in NSW
indicated that 70% of homes had past or current termite activity. That's one in
five.
Since the discontinuation of organo-chlorides in 1995 and
building construction and use of materials having been changed also ( eg.,
concrete raft slab floors) the incidence ratio has also increased. It has been
estimated by some to be as high as 30%, that's almost one in three.
All termites are different, with different food sources and
habits. Following is some helpful information about the three groups of
termites :
Drywood,
dampwood
and subterranean
termites.
